Last year, lawmakers created the Tax Credits for Children
with Disabilities, which allows parents to receive a tax credit for educational
expenses, including private school tuition.
And this year, lawmakers are again working to create more educational
options for students in North Carolina with the North Carolina Opportunity
Scholarship Program, a corporate scholarship tax credit program that would allow children from low-income families to
receive scholarships to attend the school of their parents’ choice.
In a symbolic march three times around the General Assembly
building—to object to the 30 percent achievement gap between children from
low-income families and other students in North Carolina—the rally will show
the desperate need for real educational options.
